Made by Nike in their ‘Dri-Fit’ mould of shirts that they introduced in 2020; the dimensions of this shirt provide a very relaxed size small fitting shirt.
Nike and Portugal’s relationship entered the decade of the 2020’s with their 13th home shirt collaboration under the cloud of world never seen before with the coronavirus pandemic in full swing. It is a testimony to those at Nike that this 13th home shirt would be instantly distinguished from any of its predecessors. This shirt is the epitome of minimalism meets classy with the shirt a crimson polo shirt with the use of green and black accents around the sleeve bands and down the side panels. This shirt would be the first Portugal home shirt to use a polo collar since the pair of shirts Nike produced in the 90’s, and the black accents would also be a first time inclusion for the ‘Selecao’. The national side would play their first game for 10 months when this shirt debuted in the 2-0 win versus Sweden on 8th September 2020. This shirt would be worn as Portugal fell bitterly short of a chance to defend the Nations League crown in 2020, and was also worn during their disappointing defence of the European Championship in 2021 before the shirt cycle was retired ahead of the fixtures in autumn 2022 in what was a congested international calendar between the resuming of international football in 2020 and the World Cup in Qatar kicking off in November 2022.
In honour of the Portugal Football Federation’s 100th year anniversary; Nike equipped the ‘Selecao’ with a dazzling horizontal striped outfit ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Portugal! 2 shades of red and crimson are implemented, with the latter beginning at the base of the shirt before ghosting into the paler shade of red as the shirt progresses to the collar! Moreover, the shirt is complemented with a v-neck collar, and very subtle green trim! Regrettably, the tournament in Brazil would be a disappointment, but during the cycle of this strip; Portugal were able to defeat both: Argentina and Italy!
