DESCRIPTION:
After sticking to tradition and simple style for the home and away kits; Adidas went for the jugular for Juventus’ 3rd kit ahead of the 2018/19 season, producing a stunning black/charcoal and neon yellow strip that is right up there with the very best kits Adidas have produced since becoming Juventus’ kit supplier in 2015! The shorts perfectly accompanied the shirt, with the colour matching the side and back panels, meanwhile the yellow follows suit down the legs! This ensemble was worn in the away games against: Parma, Lazio, SPAL, Valencia and Atletico Madrid.
THE SEASON:
Although a very stern Napoli challenge was warded off to yield a 7th straight Serie A title success and the Coppa Italia was won for a 4th straight season; there was still a small sense of disappointment following their UEFA Champions League quarter final exit at the hands of Real Madrid.
Having yet again been victim to Real Madrid and succinctly, Cristiano Ronaldo; the powers that be at Juventus seismic waves through the world of football when they secured his services for €100 million! Their signal of intent didn’t end there; joining him would also be: Emre Can, Joao Cancelo and Leonardo Bonucci!
They began the season by defeating Chievo 3-2 away from home, and this was the beginning of a 27-match unbeaten league run, claiming 24 victories including the scalps of: Lazio (twice), Napoli (twice), Milan, Fiorentina, Internazionale and Roma!
Genoa became the first team to defeat Juventus since Napoli did on 22/04/2018, when they stunned ‘I Bianconeri’ 2-0 on 17/03/2019; however, with a 15 point lead in tact at the top of the table, it was only a matter of when, rather than if, that 8th successive title was made academic!
The day came on 20/04/2019, when the 2-1 win over Fiorentina saw Juventus crowned as 2018/19 Serie A champions with 5 games to spare! While this momentous occasion should have been heralded all over Europe, it was instead met with an undertone of apathy following their UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Ajax 4 days earlier.
After a journey that saw Cristiano Ronaldo return to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the Group Stages, Juventus would complete a fabulous elimination of Atletico Madrid in the Last 16, with Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick at the 2nd Leg at the Allianz Stadium to secure a 3-2 aggregate progression. However, Ajax, conquerors of Real Madrid in the Last 16, would then eliminate Juventus at the quarter final stage.
On 17/05/2019; Massimiliano Allegri would announce that after 5 seasons and some 11 major honours, he would be stepping down as Juventus head coach at the end of the season. Regrettably the season and his tenure would almost fizzle to a canter as the team failed to win in any of their final 5 games of the season to eventually win the title with an 11 point margin.
The notable players that season were:
Federico Bernardeschi, Moise Kean, Mario Mandzukic, Douglas Costa, Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo, Juan Cuadrado, Rodrigo Bentancur, Emre Can, Blaise Matuidi, Sami Khedira, Miralem Pjanic, Leonardo Spinazolla, Daniele Rugani, Joao Cancelo, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Alex Sandro, Martin Caceres, Giorgio Chiellini, Mattia De Sciglio, Mattia Perin, Wojciech Szczesny
