THE SEASON:
Finishing just 6 points off the top 4 in the 2014-15 season; Mauricio Pochettino’s debut season in charge of Tottenham would also feature a League Cup Final appearance, however, the biggest breakthrough was the emergence of Harry Kane, with the young English striker scoring 31 goals. There would be 5 major acquisitions in the summer with: Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Clinton N’Jie and Heung-min Son, The season would start with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and they would have to wait until 13/09/15 to get their first win of the league season, when they beat Sunderland 1-0. Harry Kane’s first league goal would come in the club’s 4-1 demolition of Manchester City on 26/09/15 and would go a total of 14 games unbeaten in a row, before being beaten by Newcastle on December 13th. By this point Spurs had successfully reached the Last 16 of the Europa League, and would end 2015 having won 3 on the bounce to move within 4 points of league leaders Leicester City. Despite failing to capitalise on that momentum to start the year, Spurs would get their first win of the year against Sunderland, starting a 6 match winning run, as they propelled themselves into 2nd place. Draws with Arsenal, Liverpool and West Brom, left Spurs in a must win situation against Chelsea on 02/05/16, where anything less than 3 points would see Leicester City crowned as champions. A game strewn in bad-blood would end 2-2 at Stamford Bridge. Before back to back defeats would see Arsenal usurp them in 2nd place to conclude the 2015-16 campaign.
