Made in Nike’s ‘Dri-Fit’ mould which they introduced in 2013; this shirt may feel rather baggier than usual for a size medium, so please bare this in mind if you normally wear a size medium shirt. Moreover, the dimensions would suggest that this be a better fir for a size large.
With Brazil ready to host the 2013 edition of the FIFA Confederations Cup and raise the curtain to their hosting of the World Cup in 12 months-time; Nike of course made a brand new set of kits for The Selecao’, and this home shirt will without a doubt go down as one of their best ever! For only the second time since taking the reins; Nike crafted a Brazil home shirt with a collar! The collar itself is quite thick and this is also reflected in the elasticated sleeves. After the more modern-contemporary efforts made by Nike in recent years, this simple yet classy throwback was a welcome addition to their ever-growing pantheon of Brazil home shirts! Please note, the number 7 print may be a mis-print as it appears to be from the 2009-10 range, nevertheless, it takes nothing away from the aesthetic of this fine shirt!
With the World Cup around 18 months away from taking place in Brazil; the host nation would have the Confederations Cup to look forward to in 2013 ahead of the grand spectacle in 2014. The calendar year of 2013 began with a new strip being introduced for the ‘Selecao’ which debuted in the 2-1 defeat away against England on February 6th. That defeat would pave the way for a phenomenal run of 6 games unbeaten against a murderer’s row of opposition that included: Italy, Russia, Bolivia, Chile, England and France, as they prepared to hosting duties for the Confeds.
Brazil were nothing short of excellent at the tournament; defeating Japan, Mexico and Italy in the group stages, to set up a semi-final with Uruguay, which the hosts duly won to set the stage for a grand finale against the World and European champions: Spain. Brazil would swat Spain aside 3-0 to retain the Confederations Cup for the second time of asking.
A defeat to Switzerland in their next outing would do nothing to derail their momentum, as they defeated: Australia, Portugal, South Korea, 2012 African Cup of Nations champions – Zambia, Honduras and finally Chile to end 2013 on a 6 match winning streak!
