DESCRIPTION:

Nike became Athletic Club’s kit supplier ahead of the 2013-14 season; taking over the reins from Umbro, Nike would reinstate a collar, removing all the black accents from the shirt, bar the Nike swoosh. The shirt lends itself to a very even split between the red and white stripes, altogether creating a wonderful debut collaboration!

THE SEASON:

The Marcelo Bielsa and Athletic Bilbao relationship drew to a close at the end of the 2012-13, and in the San Mames hot-seat stepped in former player and manager: Ernesto Valverde for his second stint with the club. He would have to pick up the reins without the veteran pair of: Fernando Llorente and Fernando Amorebieta, however, his squad would be bolstered by the likes of: Benat, Mikel Balenziaga and Mikel Riko, while Manchester United’s final day advances for Ander Herrera bore no fruit; thus allowing the influential midfielder to remain in ‘Los Leones’ ranks for at least another season. The Basque club would almost instantly rediscover their mojo under Valverde’s tutelage; holding onto 4th place from round 15 until the very end of the season; culminating in their highest league finish since finishing 2nd in the 1997-98 season!

The notable players that season were:

Artiz Aduriz, Iker Muniain, Kike Sola, Gaizka Toquero, Mikel Rico, Carlos Gurpegi, Ander Herrera, Oscar de Marcos, Ander Iturraspe, Benat, Markel Susaeta, Inigo Perez, Erik Moran, Mikel Balenziaga, Borja Ekiza, Xabier Etxeita, Andoni Iraola, Ibai, Miken San Jose, Aymeric Laporte, Gorka Iraizoz
