DESCRIPTION:
A Lionel Messi inspired Argentina were set to make a splash in Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and Alejandro Sabella’s side did not disappoint as they reached the final in Rio de Janeiro, only to be heartbroken by Germany in the final. Ahead of the summer showpiece, Adidas would opt to use a pre-eminently white strip for Argentina; the home shirt using 4 cyan blue stripes down the main body, while black accents dressed the collar, trim on the sleeve and the 3-stripes down the arms. The use of white shorts instead of the usual black would be the surprising choice; and the strip will no doubt be synonymous with Argentina’s brilliant World Cup campaign en-route to the final, wearing the home shirt in all of the games bar the final. The aforementioned white shorts would also feature black Adidas stripes, and have a blue trim at the base of the short legs with the crest sitting on the right leg.
THE SEASON(S):
Argentina ended a fine 2013 with just one defeat in 12 games after their November double header against Ecuador and Bosnia and Herzegovina; the latter of course, a dress rehearsal ahead of the match-day 1 clash in Group F of the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. They’d finish preparation ahead of the tournament with 2 wins and a draw without conceding, before a brilliant group stage showing saw them win all 3 games; moreover, Lionel Messi would put a difficult domestic campaign aside by scoring worldly goals in each of their group stage games. Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands would all be vanquished as Alejandro Sabella’s side reached the final against Germany; only to fall 1-0 in extra time in the July 13th finale. Sabella was replaced by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino after the World Cup, and they’d quickly get revenge over the world champions however; beating them 4-2 in a friendly on September 3rd and would end 2014 having beaten Hong Kong 7-0 on October 14th 2014!
