DESCRIPTION:

Puma would release a special shirt for the then World Champions: Italy, as they entered the World Cup curtain raiser, also known as the Confederations Cup, which took place in the summer of 2009 in South Africa. The mastermind whom guided the ‘Azzurri’ to World Cup glory in Germany back in 2006: Marcello Lippi, returned to the Italy hot seat after Roberto Donadoni’s failed experiment for the 2008 European Championship, however the competition would end in disappointment, despite starting with a 3-1 win over the United States, would be on the receiving end of defeats to Egypt and Brazil to be resigned to a group stage exit. This strip would be retired following their return from South Africa, however this is a beauty! Using a lighter shade of blue, a sky-blue with a hint of green of if you will; the last time Italy wore a strip of this hue was likely their 2002 World Cup strip. This shirt also features the Italian tri-colour seam across the chest, and in another beautiful caveat; the shirt is also embossed with the word: “Italia” going down the shirt.

The notable players that season were:
