DESCRIPTION:
In Adidas’ first season as Chelsea’s kit supplier, in addition to the wonderful series of shirts came an equally culpable set of training wear, and this training may be the tip of the spear! Made in navy, blue and grey this is an excellent wear to either play in, lounge in or work out in; this top features thumb loops, and all of the respective sponsors, logos and club crest are also printed to keep the top as lightweight as possible whilst being worn.
THE SEASON:
After a remarkable 2005-06 season where ‘The Blues’ became only the second side in Premier League history to successfully retain the Premiership title; the powers that be at Stamford Bridge wasted no time in further bolstering the team as they set their crosshairs on the Champions League. World class acquisitions: Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko and Ashley Cole were added, while Salomon Kalou, Jon Obi Mikel and Khalid Boulahrouz were also signed to further fortify the squad. Although Shevchenko would score a debut goal, Chelsea would fall 2-1 at the hands of Liverpool in the 2006 Community Shield, and then suffer a shock defeat to Middlesbrough on match-day 2. The ship would be steadied; losing just twice in all competitions for the duration of 2006, as they fought a two-horse race against Manchester United in the league, while reaching the Carling Cup semi-final and the Last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. A difficult January would conclude with Chelsea reaching the final of the League Cup, and their January 31st victory over Blackburn would set the tone for a 9 match winning run in the league; a run that kept them just 3 points behind United with 5 games left to play. Elsewhere, Chelsea won their 2nd League Cup in 3 seasons when they defeated Arsenal 2-1 on 25/02/07, and would also reach the final of the FA Cup with a date with Manchester United at the new Wembley Stadium to look forward too, and had one foot in the Champions League final, following a 1st Leg semi-final win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. An uncharacteristic late April collapse would see Chelsea draw all of their remaining league games to hand the title to Manchester United, while a penalty shoot-out defeat saw them miss out on a place in the Champions League final. The season would end on a high note, as they edged past United to the win the 2007 FA Cup final.
