The final Italy shirt to be made by Nike was a classic; altogether different from its 2 predecessors, this was a fine conclusion to their short relationship together; utilising a a very simple navy and white ensemble. This shirt was worn as Italy were heartbroken at the round of 16 at the 1998 World Cup, as they lost to the hosts France by way of a cruel penalty shootout. The final showing of this brilliant jersey was in the friendly against the World XI at the Stadio Olimpico on December 16th 1998, where ‘I Azzurri’ won 6-2!
The notable players to wear that season(s) were:
Roberto Baggio, Enrico Chiesa, Christian Vieri, Filippo Inzaghi, Alessandro Del Piero, Luigi di Biagio, Angelo Di Livio, Roberto Di Matteo, Demetrio Albertini, Dino Baggio, Alessandro Nesta, Moreno Torricelli, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Pessotto, Giuseppe Bergomi, Paolo Maldini, Gianluigi Buffon, Francesco Toldo
