DESCRIPTION:
After the experimental all red attire with gold accents that was used previously; Adidas would go back to blue shorts and yellow accents to compliment the roja. On the surface, the shirt seems quite plain, however, once you get up close and personal, you see the beautiful triangle pattern that has been embossed into the shirt, meanwhile, Adidas would implement their 3-stripes down the side panels for the first time, while using navy trim on the sleeves. The shorts be a lighter blue in the mould last used in 2011, while black socks were used in a throwback to the strip used at the 1990 FIFA World Cup!
THE SEASON(S):
Spain would debut the strip to be used at Euro 2016 in their November 13th 2015 friendly win over England to conclude a superb 2015 that yielded 8 wins from their 9 games! 2016 began with a 1-1 draw with Italy, and then a goalless stalemate with Romania 3 days later, however, their final preparations ahead of their 2nd straight European title defence would include a 6-1 win over South Korea on June 1st! In a group that also featured Czech Republic, Turkey and Croatia, and in their tournament curtain raiser, they would see off the Czech Republic 1-0 thanks to a late Gerard Pique goal, before a comfortable 3-0 win over Turkey sealed passage to the Last 16 of the competition. A stunning 2-1 defeat to Croatia in match-day 3; their first defeat in this competition since 2004, would pair them with Italy in the Last 16, and after 4 consecutive tournament games unbeaten against the Azzurri; Italy would finally enact revenge for their Euro 2008, Euro 2012 and 2013 Confederations Cup defeats against ‘La Roja’ by winning this affair 2-0 in Paris. The tournament exit would bring an end to the incredible Vicente Del Bosque tenure in charge of Spain, and his replacement would be Jolen Lopetegui Fate would draw the two nations together in World Cup qualification, and after beating Belgium in a September 1st friendly, they would begin their road to Russia with an 8-0 destruction of Liechtenstein, before drawing 1-1 with Italy in Turin the following month. 2016 would end just as 2015 did; clashing with England, this time however, the nations would battle to a 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium. 2017 got underway with a 4-1 victory over Israel, before a 2-0 win over France came their way 4 days later. A fantastic 2017 would then see Spain win their remaining games of World Cup qualification; most notably including a 3-0 win over Italy on September 2nd to all but guarantee ‘La Roja’ top spot in the group, and automatic passage to Russia in 2018!
