DESCRIPTION:

In our opinion, this remains the standout shirt of Adidas and Mexico’s relationship which they have held since 2007! This shirt wonderfully applies embossed the eagle feathers of the Mexican flag into the main body of the shirt, meanwhile the red accents and white collar just add to the absolute majesty of this shirt. The detailing of the feathers comes to life further because of the two-tone effect applied, wonderfully apt, given that a crystal-esque shade of green was used, rather than the darker shades used by Adidas previously.

THE SEASON(S):

The 2009 Gold Cup champions would have 12 friendlies to help prepare for the 2010 FIFA World Cup taking place in South Africa. Preparations began with a 5-0 win over Bolivia on 24/02/10 in the United States, and would go unbeaten until May, defeating fellow World Cup participants: New Zealand, North Korea and Chile, before defeats to England and the Netherlands ended their unbeaten run at 11 months. Still, ahead of the tournament curtain raiser on June 11th, Mexico would defeat Gambia, and then the reigning World Cup holders Italy! Javier Aguirre’s side would earn a 1-1 draw against hosts South Africa to get the World Cup underway, before a huge win over France all but had Mexico into the Last 16. Defeat to Uruguay in their final group match would set up a rematch of the Last 16 from the 2006 World Cup against Argentina, and once again, their South American counterparts would be too strong, as ‘The Aztecs’ exited for a 5th time in a row at the first knockout stage. Their next game would come against the eventual winners of the competition: Spain, and the two nations would battle to a 1-1 draw in Mexico City on 11/08/10, before donning this strip for the final time in the 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Georgia on 09/02/11.
