DESCRIPTION:

Adidas would seemingly turn to the 2005/06 season for inspiration as Real Madrid were reacquainted with black accents and collar for their home shirt. This shirt would continue the club’s relationship with sponsor Bwin, and like all the Adidas shirts released that season, the Adidas embroidery would be moved to the centre of the shirt. Please note, the domestic editions of Real Madrid’s shirts that season wouldn’t feature the Spanish flag unlike the European versions.

THE SEASON:

After a fabulous 2007/08 season that saw Real Madrid spectacular defend their La Liga title in Berndt Schuster’s debut season in charge; ‘Los Blancos’ would add to their ever growing Dutch contingent with the acquisition of Rafeal Van der Vaart, while youth would be injected into the club following the return of: Ruben de la Red and the signing of Javi Garcia. After a scare in the 1st Leg of the Supercopa de Espana against Valencia; a spectacular 4-2 win in the return leg at home saw Real win the competition that eluded them 12 months earlier! A opening day league defeat to Deportivo La Coruna was quickly forgotten as the club won 8 out of their next 10 games! An unfortunate injury to Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who had netted 10 times in 12 games before his season was cruelly ended. Juande Ramos would be drafted in to replace Schuster in December, and he would be given the signings of: Klaas-Jan Huntelar, Lassana Diarra to aid his cause, and would in fact win 17 of his first 21 games in charge, however a late season collapse would see them ultimately finish in 2nd place.

The notable players that season were:

Ruud van Nistelrooy, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Javier Saviola, Raul, Gonzalo Higuain, Arjen Robben, Rafael Van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Dani Parejo, Guti, Javi Garcia, Mahamadou Diarra, Lassana Diarra, Marcelo, Christoph Metzelder, Gabriel Heinze, Michel Salgado, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Fabio Cannavaro, Iker Casillas, Jerzy Dudek
