DESCRIPTION:

Ahead of the 150th anniversary of the England national side – Nike became the new kit supplier after nearly 30 years in tandem with Umbro! The first range of designs made by Nike put the 150 years anniversary at the heart of the theme with all the outfield and goalkeeper shirts and respective leisure and training wear all bearing the special anniversary version of the crest. This polo shirt was no different, and while the shirt itself is a run of the mill Nike polo shirt; the crest has to be seen to be believed – such is the detail and quality that has gone into this anniversary edition series!

THE SEASON(S):

England began their 150th anniversary year in 2013 on 6th February where over 87,000 fans gathered at Wembley Stadium for special attraction friendly against Brazil to commemorate the anniversary. England would prevail 2-1 with what was their first win over the record-time world-champions since March 1990! They would follow this up by defeating San Marino 8-0 in Serravalle to resume qualification towards the World Cup in Brazil. Four days later however, they would be held to a 1-1 draw away against Montenegro.

On 29th May, England and Republic of Ireland would meet for the first time since their infamous aborted friendly that took place in 1995. Fortunately, no such scenes would repeat themselves as a 1-1 draw played out. With the World Cup curtain raiser kicking off in Brazil – England would travel to Brazil to rematch Brazil on 2nd June, and England would remain unbeaten after a 2-2 stalemate.

England would face off with another one of their British Isle rivals – Scotland in what was their first ever clash since 1999 and England would prevail 3-2 in a thrilling clash at Wembley Stadium. The September 2013 qualifiers would see England past Moldova by 4-0, before the crunch match to likely decide who would top the group against Ukraine on 10th September. A goalless draw would be the result and after back to back wins over Montenegro and Poland; England would finish top of the group in what was their third consecutive unbeaten qualifying campaign!

The November 2013 friendlies would conclude the 150th Anniversary tour; unfortunately for the national side, it would be a disappointing end as Chile inflicted England’s first defeat at home since February 2012 before Germany won 1-0 in the 19th November friendly in front of over 85,000 fans at Wembley.
