Made in Warrior’s ‘War Tech’ template that they introduced in 2013, this shirt provides excellent dimensions for a size large football shirt.

DESCRIPTION:

In Warriors second season as Liverpool’s kit manufacturer they would create a modern contemporary home shirt after the previos season’s very stylish polo shirt edition. The standout features of this shirt would be the embossed striping which runs down the body of the shirt where Liverpool FC is also written, As well as the continued use of yellow applications for the embroidery. Moreover, whilst the cuffs of the sleeves do look elasticated, they are not! So please do bear this in mind. This would be the home shirt synonymous with Liverpool’s epic Premier League title tilt, where they finished 2nd in the 2013-14 season as Luis Suarez was named the player of the season as well as the won the Golden Boot and consequently this would be the last Liverpool shirt worn by the Uruguayan superstar before he left to join Barcelona .

THE SEASON:

Although Brendan Rodgers could only guide Liverpool to a 7th place finish in 2012-13, his brand of football he laid the foundations of, a solid 2013 portion of the season, and crucially, the form of Luis Suarez gave the Anfield faithful more than enough optimism that the 2013-14 season would yield significant improvement for a side still transitioning from serial managerial change over the prior few campaigns. Keeping Suarez at bay would be the Northern Irishman’s first challenge, as the Uruguayan hit-man made no secret of his desire to facilitate a move to Arsenal in wake of a 10 match ban he received following a biting inciting involving Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic at the end of the season.

Rodgers would be given plenty of investment in the summer of 2013, as a series of talents arrived at Anfield in the form of: Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Simon Mingolet, Kolo Toure, Tiago Ilori, Mamadou Sakho, Aly Cissokho and Victor Moses. Just 3 days before Liverpool raised the curtain of the 2013-14 Premier League season against Stoke City; Suarez appeared to have second thoughts after all about leaving, however, it was January 2013 signing: Daniel Sturridge who shone in the absence of Suarez, as it was his goal that gifted Liverpool a 1-0 win over the ever dangerous ‘Potters’ to get the season off to a winning start. Sturridge would continue his fine form as he scored the winning goals in the respective 1-0 wins over Aston Villa and Manchester United to get Liverpool off to a 100% start to the season after 3 games.

Following the international break, they would drop points in the games against Swansea City and Southampton, however, in Suarez’ return to league action following his lengthy ban; he would score a brace to see Liverpool brush Sunderland aside 3-1 at the Stadium of Light on September 29th! A League Cup exit at the hands of United just 4 days earlier meant that Liverpool could concentrate to remainder of the efforts in 2013 solely on the league; unlike their challengers who had additional European and domestic duties to contend with.

Suarez, Sturridge and Steven Gerrard were all on target in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace; a result that brought them level on points with 1st placed Arsenal on 16 points apiece. They would meet Arsenal in a crucial showdown on November 2nd at The Emirates, and the home side would prevail 2-0 to leave Liverpool in 3rd behind ‘The Gunners’ and Chelsea, with Spurs right behind them on goal difference. They would win just 1 in their next 3 games, with a busy December starting with a stunning 3-1 defeat away to newly promoted Hull City!

The defeat would galvanise ‘The Reds’ as they were merciless in defeating Norwich City 5-1; a game where Suarez helped himself to 4 goals! He’d get himself a brace in the 4-1 win over West Ham United and enjoy another as his side destroyed Tottenham 5-0 at White Hart Lane on December 15th! They would make it 4 wins in a row when Cardiff were brushed aside 3-1, where again, Suarez earnt himself a brace, taking his tally to 10 goals in his last 4 outings! Their incredible run brought them to the summit of the division, however, their next 2 games would come against Chelsea and Manchester City no less…

The Boxing Day showdown at The Etihad Stadium saw Liverpool squander a 1 goal lead to eventually fall 2-1, and they’d do the same 3 days later at Stamford Bridge; leaving them in 5th place at end of 2013 and 6 points behind Arsenal who had retaken 1st place…

New Years Day of 2014 would begin an absolutely incredible 2014 portion of the season! The tale began with a routine 2-0 win at home over Hull City, before reaching the 4th Round of the FA Cup after beating Oldham Athletic. An 8 goal thriller would unfold at the Britannia Stadium when they saw off Stoke City 5-3, however, after coming from back from 2-0 down, they would have to settle for a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at home at January 18th.

A 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup allowed them to get back on track ahead of the Merseyside Derby on January 28th, and they would brutalise Roberto Martinez’ side 4-0 at Anfield to move 4 points clear of their city rivals. The 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on February 1st would signal the start of an epic winning streak…

Having been left 8 points adrift of Arsenal after that result, their next game was incidentally against Arsene Wenger’s side, and in a tour-de-force at Anfield; Liverpool would win 5-1; incredibly going 4-0 ahead within 20 minutes! Steven Gerrard’s 91st minute penalty would see his side past Fulham 3-2 in a see-saw encounter at Craven Cottage, and then they’d have to defeat Swansea City 4-3 at home next! They would end February just 4 points shy of 1st place Chelsea.

March 1st yielded a fine 3-0 win away against Southampton, up next however, was the dreaded visit to Old Trafford. While Manchester United had been suffering under David Moyes’ tutelage, nobody would have foresaw Liverpool winning 3-0 at ‘The Theatre of Dreams’, moreover, Steven Gerrard earnt a hat-trick of penalties, however, he was only able to convert 2 of them, but it mattered not as Liverpool completed the double over their fierce rivals for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Liverpool would next put Cardiff City to the sword; defeating the Welsh outfit 6-3 at the Cardiff City Stadium, while follow up wins over Sunderland and Tottenham (the latter by a 4-0 score-line) saw Liverpool take 15 points from an available 15, and move within 2 points of Manchester City, who had now assumed top spot!

Steven Gerrard would net a brace of spot-kicks once again away from home, as West Ham United were beaten 2-1 at Upton Park on April 6th and up next was the visit of the league leaders Manchester City in a title-tilt-tussle for ages! An incredible contest at Anfield on April 13th saw Liverpool go 2-0 ahead, only for City to level matters just after the hour mark, before Phillipe Coutinho struck in the 78th minute to give the home side the advantage! Jordan Henderson would be dismissed in the 93rd minute, but it mattered not as Liverpool made it 10 wins in a row, and more importantly, moved 2 points clear at the top of the table with just 4 games left to spare!

With the target now on their back, Liverpool made hard work of soon to be relegated Norwich City; beating them 3-2 at Carrow Road on April 20th, however, with 11 games won on the bounce, their next opponent would be Chelsea! Jose Mourinho’s side were now 5 points behind Liverpool, and a victory would have ended any hope remaining of Chelsea winning a 4th league title this season. In an incredible turn of events, Steven Gerrard’s now infamous slip would gift Demba Ba a goal on the stroke of half time, before Willian finished the job off late in 2nd half stoppage time.

With 2 games left to spare, we still had a 3 horse race for the title, incredibly, Manchester City had a better goal difference and goal’s scored return than Liverpool, despite Liverpool netting 96 goals in just 36 games. Nobody however, could have predicted what unfolded next…

On Bank Holiday Monday, May 5th 2014, Liverpool made the trip to Selhurst Park to meet Crystal Palace. Within the hour, Liverpool led 3-0, in the space of 9 minutes however, the hosts would score 3 times and salvage a 3-3 draw in a result that left Luis Suarez overwhelmed with tears on the rained down Selhurst Park turf. As precdings stood ahead of the final day of the season; Manchester City just needed to match Liverpool’s result, as they now held a 2 point cushion over ‘The Reds’. Liverpool would come from a goal down to defeat Newcastle United 2-1, but it mattered not as Manchester City defeated West Ham United 2-0, and consequently, Liverpool would have to settle for 2nd place in what was one of the finest Premier League season’s in history!
