CONDITION: VERY GOOD

While this shirt is in mostly ‘very-good’ condition with respect to the material, the colour, elasticity and embroidery; there are signs of wear and pulling, however, the biggest blemishes are the degrading of the sleeve sponsors and crest, and the wear to the name and numbering.

Made in Adidas’ new ‘ClimaCool’ template which they introduced in 2013; the sizing has worn off, so given their previous track record, it could very well be a size small, however, the dimensions would lend themselves better to size medium shirt.

DESCRIPTION: 

Adidas restored Bayern Munich’s home strip back to the traditional solid red and white, in what could be described as the successor to the 2009-10 home shirt, after the red and white striped affair from 2010-11 and the red and gold number utilised between 2011-13! The v-neck collar we retained from the latter, albeit in a far more traditional aesthetic. The collar, white Adidas 3-stripe’s down the sleeve and the band around the sleeves nicely synchronise with one another, meanwhile the Adidas embroidery on the shirt, and T sponsorship have also been restored to white. The main feature of the shirt is the use red checkers in what was sure an ode to the club’s famous crest! This would also be the shirt worn as Bayern claimed the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League at the end of the 2012-13 season, and was the last Bayern shirt to be worn by the likes of: Mario Gomez, Luiz Gustavo and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk.

THE SEASON:

Jupp Heynckes closed the door on a magical two-season stint in charge of ‘Die-Rotten’ as he guided the club to a fantastic treble in 2012-13! Taking his place would be the hottest property in football management: Pep Guardiola, with the former Barcelona coach given the unenviable task of somehow surpassing the standards set by his predecessor!

Already waiting for him on his arrival was the signing of Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund, and Guardiola would receive his wish of his former student – Thiago Alcantara, as he was signed from Barcelona for €25 million.

The football world watched in wait as Guardiola made his official bow in the Bayern dugout in their July 27th DFL-Supercup showdown against Borussia Dortmund; astonishingly however, he saw his side beaten 4-2! He quickly atoned for that loss however, when he guided his Bayern side to a penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea in a the 2013 UEFA Super Cup showdown, where he once again renewed acquaintances with his nemesis – Jose Mourinho.

His Bayern side displayed a hitherto seen display of dominance in the Bundesliga; going unbeaten in their for 28 straight league games, winning 25, before their first loss against Augsburg on April 5th 2014! As they lost 1 more game than their 2012-13 title winning season, they would fall short by just a point; racking up 90 en route to successfully defending the Bundesliga crown.

Bayern would also become FIFA Club World Cup champions for the first time in late 2013 as they defeated Morocco’s Raja Casablanca 2-0 in the tournament final which was also hosted in Morocco. The club would also successfully defend the DFB-Pokal when they beat Dortmund in the May 17th finale in Berlin.

The Champions League defence would sadly fall-short at the semi-final stage as they were beaten by eventual winners – Real Madrid. Along the way defeating 3 English sides in the form of: Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United; the latter pairing in the knock-out stages.
