DESCRIPTION:

The 2015-16 season saw Marseille once again amend their club crest, with the classic ‘OM’ emblem fitting within a shield that bears the name of: Olympique De Marseille. After the 2014-15 season used darker blue accents, the 2015-16 edition went back to the classic teal/blue shade to compliment the white of ‘OM’. The anthem tracksuit was a beautiful and cool shade of blue with white accents, culminating in a wonderful and vibrant set!

THE SEASON:

Only 2 points denied Marseille a 3rd place finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League in 2014-15! Marcelo Bielsa’s debut season in charge of the club was met with critical acclaim, however, he would leave his post as the club’s manager following the 1-0 defeat to Caen on the opening day of the 2015-16 Ligue 1 season!

His departure was tip of the iceberg in a summer that saw several key players: Jeremy Morel, Foued Kadir, Andre Ayew, Andre-Pierre Gignac, Rod Fanni, Gianelli Imbula, Florian Thauvin and most crucially, Dimitri Payet all leave the club.

Franck Passi was handed the reigns of the club for the 1-0 defeat to Reims before Michel was appointed as full-time manager on 19/08/2015. Despite a raft of transfers including the likes of: Georges-Kévin Nkoudou, Lucas Ocampos, Karim Rekik, Bounar Sarr, Lassana Diarra, Abou Diaby, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Rolando, Mauricio Isla, Remy Cabella and Paulo De Ceglie; the team would win just 10 times all season, as they battled to a limp 13th place finish, their lowest league finish since the 2000-01 season!

On that same note, they would also lose 10 times, which means that on 18 separate occasions in Ligue 1; ‘OM’ would endure a stalemate! The season would also yield an appearance in the 2016 Coupe de France Final however, they would be beaten 4-2 by Paris Saint Germain in a thrilling finale on 21/05/16.

The notable players that season were:

Steven Fletcher, Michy Batshuayi, Florian Thauvin, Lucas Ocampos, Romain Alessandrini, Remy Cabella, Mauricio Isla, Bounna Sarr, Lassana Diarra, Lucas Silva, Maxime Lopez, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Abou Diaby, Romao, Paolo De Ceglie, Nicolas Nkoulou, Karim Rekik, Rolando, Benjamin Mendy, Brice Dja Djedje, Steve Mandanda, Yohann Pele
