DESCRIPTION:

Luis Enrique would do the unthinkable in his debut season in charge of the club; matching Pep Guardiola’s feat of guiding the club to a treble! Unlike Guardiola however, he would have to deal with the departure of his captain: Xavi and long-term servant: Pedro, while the club also had to deal with a transfer embargo that prevented any new players joining the club until January 2016. Their quest for 6 titles began on August 11th as they won the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla in a 5-4 classic in Georgia, however, the Supercopa de Espana would be lost against Athletic Bilbao; embarrassingly falling to a 5-1 aggregate defeat to the Basque side. The side would be imperious in the league for the first 30 games; winning 24 times, while also winning the FIFA Club World Cup in December. The tragic passing of club legend Johann Cruyff on March 24th 2016 would coincide with a run of 3 straight defeats in the league and crashing out of the Champions League. The club would rebound to win their last 5 games of the season by a 24-0 goal difference, to successfully defend the title, while also successfully defending the Copa del Rey against Sevilla on May 22nd! Luis Suarez would make history as he became the first winner of the ‘Pichichi’, thus ending the Messi/Ronaldo duopoly of the award since 2010. While the home shirt was a marmite affair, the away shirt was amber with ‘blaugrana’ accents, while the red stripes on the back paid homage to the club’s Catalan roots.

The notable players that season were:

Neymar Jr, Luis Suarez, Arda Turan, Munir, Sandro Ramires, Lionel Messi, Pedro, Rafinha, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Thomas Vermaelen, Gerard Pique, Jeremy Mathieu, Marc Bartra, Dani Alves, Sergi Roberto, Adriano, Jordi Alba, Aleix Vidal, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo
