Made using Warrior’s ‘Vapa-Tech’ mould that was introduced ahead of the 2013-14 season; the dimensions of this shirt may be better suited for someone who wears a size large.

DESCRIPTION:

In Warrior’s second season as Liverpool’s kit manufacturer; the American brand would push the envelope as far as daring kit design was concerned, and this was no more apparent than in Liverpool’s change strips used in the 2013-14 season. The first of those designs was the away shirt; using a white back-drop, red and black accents, forming an almost hypnotic pattern act as the compliment and what is almost a tribute to the old Wimbledon goalkeeper shirt worn in the late 90’s by Neil Sullivan! The strip goes on to utilise black shorts and white socks, and in spite of its peculiar design; the strip lives on in the memory of this fantastic season for ‘The Reds’ as it was worn in 2014 during their 11-match winning streak that included the fine victories on the road against: Manchester United, Cardiff City and West Ham United! It should also be noted that the name and numbering print is made from felt and not vinyl, making this even more of a rarity!   

THE SEASON:

Despite finishing 7^th in his debut season in charge of Liverpool; Brendan Rodgers would inspire plenty of optimism ahead of the 2013-14 season, especially following Luis Suarez’ 30 goal haul, and subsequent decision to remain with the club after a summer exit looked inevitable. There would be plenty of movement in the summer of 2013 as Jamie Carragher’s retirement would be followed by the exits of: Andy Carroll, Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing and Stewart Downing. The close season would see talented Spanish duo: Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto join the club, meanwhile moves were also completed for: Simon Mingolet, Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho, Aly Cissokho and Victor Moses. Liverpool and Stoke City would raise the Premier League curtain ahead of the 2013-14 season, and ‘The Reds’ would begin with a 1-0 win over the notoriously stingy ‘Potters’, before claiming the scalps of Aston Villa and Manchester United by the same score-line to sit top at the start of September. After failing to win against Swansea and then Southampton, before knocked out of the Carling Cup by Manchester United; Luis Suarez would make a hero’s return after his 10 game ban and net a brace in the 3-1 win over Sunderland on 29/09/13. The period until December would be blighted by inconsistency, however, in the final month of 2013; a spell of 4 wins on the bounce, where the team scored 17 goals and conceded just thrice, had Liverpool back at the summit of the division. A crucial pair of games with Manchester City and Chelsea would next and wins over the 2 sides in the chasing pack would establish significant distance between all parties involved; alas, Liverpool would suffer back to back defeats to end 2013. A 2-0 win over Hull City would be the start of an incredible 16 match unbeaten streak in the league! During this spell; Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge would net 11 times apiece! Crucially, wins over: Everton, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City would come during this epic run in which the last 11 games all ended in victory! Brendan Rodgers side would lead the way with 3 games of the campaign left, Liverpool would welcome Chelsea to Anfield, and in the cruellest of events; Chelsea would snap the streak with a 2-0 win on 27/04/14. Evn with Manchester City making up the distance with their series of games in hand; a win over Crystal Palace on Bank Holiday Monday would mean that the destiny of the title would remain in their hands, yet in one of the most extraordinary games in Premier League history; Liverpool would surrender a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Selhurst Park, meaning they would go into the final day of the season 2 points behind City. Their 2-1 win over Newcastle United was rendered inconsequential as Manchester City saw off West Ham to regain the Premier League title; however, Liverpool would finish 2^nd; their highest league position since 2009 and return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
