DESCRIPTION:

The season that changed the game; it was in the summer of 2008 that Manchester City were taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group and with it, came a seemingly unlimited supply of funds! Ahead of their formal takeover; Mark Hughes had already been installed as manager while Jo, Tal Ben Haim and Vincent Kompany had also been acquired, while in the latter stages of the window, came in Shaun Wright-Phillips and Pablo Zabaleta, while Robinho was signed on deadline day, in what remains one of the leagues most stunning acquisitions. Regrettably, the campaign would be considered inconsistent at best, despite Robinho’s electric start to the season, and a UEFA Cup quarter final finish. The season would become more famous for their reported ambitious £100 million bid for Kaka in January, that the player turned down, as well as the mid-season season spree, that saw: Wayne Bridge, Craig Bellamy, Nigel de Jong and Shay Given all join the club. This shirt would be the final stand as far as the relationships with Le Coq Sportif and Thomas Cook were concerned, and in their final offering for ‘the Cityzens’ the French kit supplier would craft what would be classed as the typical yet unique City style shirt from the noughties.

The notable players that season were:

Daniel Sturridge, Ched Evans, Felipe Caicedo, Valeri Bojinov, Craig Bellamy, Darius Vassell, Robinho, Benjani, Jo, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Elano, Martin Petrov, Vincent Kompany, Michael Johnson, Dietmar Hamann, Gelson Fernandes, Stephen Ireland, Nigel de Jong, Vedran Corluka, Michael Ball, Richard Dunne, Micah Richards, Tal Ben Haim, Nedum Onuoha, Javier Garrido, Pablo Zabaleta, Wayne Bridge, Joe Hart, Kasper Schmeichel, Shay Given
