DESCRIPTION:

In what was almost an inverse of the home ensemble; Adidas would take the daring attempt of creating a first ever pink away kit for Real Madrid and the result was quite spectacular! Utilising a fuchsia pink; they would keep the same button-band collar that was used for the home shirt. However, there would be no black accents used, rather, the shirt was strictly pink and white, with the crest also being adapted to the pink and white colours! Also like the home shirt, this shirt employs an embossed diagonal striped pattern; the sum of which creates a more fashionable look than any its predecessors in recent times! This shirt would only be used sparingly, most notably in the stunning 4-2 defeat away against Real Sociedad on 31/08/2014 and in the 2-0 win away against Schalke 04 in the 1st Leg of their UEFA Champions League Last 16 clash on 18/02/2015!

THE SEASON:

After a wonderful 2013-14 season that saw Real Madrid defeat Barcelona to win the Copa Del Rey and finally securing ‘La Decima’ when they beat Atletico Madrid in a dramatic UEFA Champions League Final; Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid only went from strength to strength in the Summer Transfer Window of 2014 by adding three of the standout performers from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in: James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos, Keylor Navas, meanwhile, Javier Hernandez was added from Manchester United on loan until the end of the season, as the club bade farewell to: Diego Lopez, Xabi Alonso, Angel Di Maria and Alvaro Morata in the close season.

A season that would be fought on 6 fronts began on August 12th when they saw off Sevilla 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup! Sadly, the Supercopa de Espana would deliver a fist set-back for the season as they were beaten 2-1 over 2 Legs by Atletico Madrid.

La Liga would kick-off on August 25th and they would see off new promoted Cordoba 2-0 at home. After back to back defeats to Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid respectively; the club would embark on an incredible run of 12 straight wins to sit 4 points clear at the top of the table ahead of their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. Although they would start 2015 with a defeat to Valencia; they would still rack up a further 17 wins; they would have to settle for 2nd place as their 2-1 defeat to Barcelona on 22/03/15 proved to be the difference as Real finished with 92 points, and Barcelona with 94. Although Barcelona’s ‘MSN’ trio stole much of the headlines that season; Real Madrid would actually finish as the league’s top scorers as they plundered 118 strikes – just 3 shy of the record they set in 2011/12! Along the way, there would be wins by score-lines of: 8-2, 9-1, 7-3, as well as 10 games in which they scored 4 or more goals in!

Their defences of the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League would end in disappointment with Atletico Madrid eliminating them in the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey. In the Champions League, Real Madrid would enjoy a thrilling ride to the semi-final; first, welcoming Liverpool back to the competition in the Group Stage, Real Madrid would defeat them both home and away en route to winning all of their games in the Group. They would then rematch Schalke in the Round of 16 and would be stunned 4-3 at home in the 2nd Leg, and although they prevailed 5-4 on aggregate, this would be a first defeat in the competition at home since their loss to Barcelona in the 1st Leg of their semi-final back in 2011. A rematch with Atletico Madrid would finally see Real beat their city rivals as Javier Hernandez’ late goal in the 2nd Leg earnt a 1-0 progression. Tasked with a semi-final against Juventus; Juve’ would earn their revenge after Real helped condemn them to a Group Stage elimination in 2013!

Lastly, there was the opportunity to become FIFA Club World Cup champions and they would take their place as champions of the world after seeing off Cruz Azul and then San Lorenzo in the Marrakech Final on 20/12/2014. These wins would also make up win 21 & 22 in their club record setting 22 match winning streak!

Sadly for Carlo Ancelotti, the 2 cup wins would not be enough to keep him in his job as he was replaced by Rafa Benitez ahead of the 2015-16 season, meanwhile, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez’s services were not required either as he returned back to Manchester United. Asier Illarramendi was sold back to Real Sociedad, and Semi Khedira’s 5 year stay with the club would also culminate as he joined Juventus.

The notable players that season were:

Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Javier Hernandez, Jese, Lucas Vasquez, Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria, James Rodriguez, Isco, Luka Modric, Lucas Silva, Toni Kroos, Asier Illarramendi, Dani Carvajal, Marcelo, Nacho, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Raphael Varane, Fabio Coentrao, Keylor Navas, Kiko Casilla
